The home security provider abode systems has unveiled a new Indoor/Outdoor Smart Camera that can be easily deployed anywhere in the home. The camera comes with a number of different mounts designed for different areas of the house.
“Doorbell and external video cameras should not require a security expert to setup,” said abode Founder and CEO Chris Carney. “Our new indoor/outdoor camera fills the gap within our portfolio of robust smart home security offerings.”
The new camera can be used as a single standalone device, or be integrated with other cameras as part of a larger home security network. It offers robust computer vision capabilities that can distinguish unauthorized strangers from authorized friends and family members (that particular feature can be toggled on and off). Owners can also use abode’s CUE automation engine to tell the camera to watch for and monitor specific security situations.
The camera itself comes with a PIR motion sensor and can capture footage in poor lighting conditions thanks to an IR LED. Other features include a microphone for two-way communication and a wide-angle lens that offers a 152-degree field of view, in addition to an IP65 weather-resistance rating. Certain models will have a built-in doorbell button.
The Indoor/Outdoor Camera is making its first appearance at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, where it can be found at booth #40724 in the Sands. The company plans to release the camera in the first quarter of the year with a $199 price tag, though customers will have the option to purchase a plan that offers supplemental video services.
abode’s camera is not the first home security solution to appear at CES. Swann is debuting a video doorbell and a pair of wireless cameras at CES 2020, while Tuya Smart released a smart doorbell with facial recognition capabilities at last year’s iteration of the show.
