Swann Unveils New Security Cameras and Doorbells with Face Recognition Capabilities

The home security specialist Swann is showcasing a pair of new security cameras at this week’s CES show in Las Vegas. The first is a standard Wire-Free Security Camera, and the second is a Wi-Fi Security Tracker Camera that received a CES 2020 Innovation Award.

Swann is displaying a wireless video doorbell in addition to the two cameras. All three devices offer a long battery life and capture video feeds that can be stored locally on compatible DVRs or NVRs. Swann also allows users to back up the recordings on the company’s own cloud server.  

“At Swann, we recognize the security needs of everyday home users,” said Swann CEO Mike Lucas. “Consumers want access to high-quality home security solutions with no recurring fees.”

To that end, both the standard Security Camera and the video doorbell provide a 180-degree HD viewing angle and offer two-way talk functionality. They also support facial recognition for up to 10 registered individuals, allowing hosts to know when a frequent guest or family member is standing outside the door. The Security Camera has onboard memory and will continue to record footage if the Wi-Fi goes down or in the case of a full power outage.

The Tracker Camera, meanwhile, comes with a MicroSD card and is able to track moving objects thanks to Swann’s Light Flow Detection technology. The Camera has an auto-focus feature and will pan and tilt to keep suspicious items (or people) in the frame.

All three devices can be managed through the Swann Security app. The app provides alerts and lets users view live video streams remotely, and can be fully integrated with Alexa and Google Assistant.

Of course, Swann’s doorbell is not the only such product currently on the market. Tuya Smart and Google have both released doorbells with facial recognition tech, while Amazon has faced increasing scrutiny for giving police officers access to footage recorded through the company’s Ring surveillance platform.
