BioConnect is getting into the safe business through the acquisition of MedixSafe. The latter builds secure narcotics storage cabinets for medical and emergency facilities, and has previously released safes that use BioConnect fingerprint sensors for authentication.
With the acquisition, BioConnect is bringing those safes in-house, and adding them to its existing portfolio of security and access control solutions. In doing so, it will make the safes compatible with the rest of the BioConnect Trust Platform. That means that employees will be able to open MedixSafe’s Narcotics Safes and Key Cabinets with the same biometric credential that they use at the front door or to enter a secure area.
BioConnect acquired MedixSafe from its former parent company, Electronic Security Specialist & Cabling (E.S.S.C.). MedixSafe itself has previously provided safes for around 600 customers all over the world, and now has a client roster that includes hospitals, pharmacies, and fire departments in addition to commercial and military facilities. The BioConnect Trust Platform, meanwhile, offers support for card and mobile credentials in addition to biometrics.
“Our purchase of MedixSafe is a natural progression of a long-standing partnership,” said BioConnect Founder and CEO Rob Douglas. “We look forward to welcoming MedixSafe customers and employees to the BioConnect ecosystem and the next chapter in this journey.”
“Their Trust Platform with one pool of identities for a range of security requirements will deliver significant value and innovation to the MedixSafe product line,” added MedixSafe Founder and President Jim Turner.
MedixSafe’s products meet the latest regulatory requirements for the storage of controlled substances. The company is based in Memphis, Tennessee, and will continue to operate from that site after the acquisition.
BioConnect, on the other hand, has been gaining traction with its Wellness Declaration solution in the wake of COVID-19. The company’s Enterprise 5.0 Platform was also named as the Best Convergence and Integration Solution at the ISC West New Product Showcase Awards for 2021.
