Telos Acquires Touchless Fingerprinting Specialist DFT

Telos has acquired Diamond Fortress Technologies, with an eye to leveraging the latter’s ONYX touchless fingerprinting software.

A Viriginia-based provider of cybersecurity solutions for the enterprise and the government sector, Telos is well known in the biometrics space for its fingerprint-based background check services. As of April of this year, the company reported that 90 airports were using its Designated Aviation Channeling solution.

DFT’s touchless fingerprinting software, meanwhile, will be integrated into Telos’s IDTrust360 platform, which entails biometric identity verification, watchlist services, FBI-certified Criminal History Records Checks, and analytics services. ONYX is designed to leverage a device’s camera in order to capture the biometric data of a subject’s fingerprint, without the need to actually touch a fingerprint sensor.

In announcing the acquisition, Telos indicated that DFT’s technology will help it to better serve existing customers and to expand into new markets including financial services, healthcare, and transportation.

Telos CEO John Wood described DFT’s ONYX software as “a game-changing licensed technology stack for organizations that are interested in mobile-enabled biometric capture and authentication services,” adding, “We believe the acquisition of this patented touchless fingerprinting technology will allow us to eliminate much of the friction involved in biometrics data gathering for identity and access management and to better serve our growing customer base at both the enterprise and consumer levels.”

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, and Telos says that it will not result in a change to its fiscal guidance for 2021. The company noted that it has acquired all of Diamond Fortress Technologies’ patents as part of the agreement, and that it has hired seven current DFT employees, including “employees critical to the growth and expansion” of its ONYX technology, as well as key patent holders.
