BIO-key Unveils New Mobile Biometric POS Terminal

BIO-key is making a splash in the payments pace with the release of a new mobile Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal. The BIO-key MobilePOS Pro is a handheld rugged device that runs on the Android platform, and authenticates users with the help of a built-in fingerprint scanner and a biometric camera.

The capacitive fingerprint scanner boasts FBI certification, while the 5 MP camera supports BIO-key’s award-winning PalmPositive authentication solution. PalmPositive verifies someone’s identity when they hold their hand in front of the camera, and therefore provides users with a fully contactless authentication option.

The MobilePOS Pro comes with a thermal printer, a magnetic stripe reader, and NFC and barcode scanners in addition to the biometric readers. The dual SIM device supports 4G and WiFi connectivity, and can be controlled with the help of a 5.5-inch touchscreen. All of that hardware has been fully integrated into a single (and self-contained) POS device.

BIO-key has indicated that it is willing to pre-load applications onto the MobilePOS terminal for customers who place volume orders. The device is available either with or without BIO-key’s own PortalGuard and WEB-key identity management solutions. That hardware itself is capable of mobile enrollment, authentication, and payment processing, all of which are backed up with liveness detection to prevent fraudulent transactions.
