With the need for strong, post-password security now greater than ever, BIO-key is making the case for biometrics with a newly published pair of case studies.

One of them concerns First National Bank of Long Island, which decided to opt for the convenience and security of biometric employee authentication after a recommendation from its auditors to increase the number of characters required for passwords. The bank’s administrators assessed solutions from three major providers, ultimately opting for BIO-key’s fingerprint sensors and ID Director for Windows software.

The move enabled the bank to upgrade its security while greatly reducing the burden of password reset requests, of which it could often receive dozens per day. What’s more, the deployment ultimately cost less than the bank’s leadership had anticipated.

Likewise, similar benefits were seen when BIO-key’s EcoID and PIV-Pro fingerprint readers were embraced – again together with its ID Director for Windows software – by the Collier County Supervisor of Elections, in a bid to improve election security by enhancing employee authentication. SoE officials opted for BIO-key’s biometric solutions after researching options on the Stack Exchange and Spiceworks IT forums, and in the end this has resulted in a significant reduction in password reset requests at a lower cost than anticipated.
