Aware’s Mobile Biometric Solution Passes iBeta’s Level 2 Anti-Spoofing Test

Aware has achieved an important milestone with its Knomi biometric authentication system: the solution has passed Level 1 and 2 of iBeta’s Presentation Attack Detection evaluation.

Presentation attacks, or ‘spoofing’ attacks, are increasingly considered a serious threat to biometric authentication systems even as the latter continue to proliferate. In response, iBeta’s testing program has emerged to asses facial recognition systems’ ability to detect such fraudulent authentication attempts.

At present, only a small handful of biometric authentication systems have managed to attain Level 2 compliance in iBeta’s PAD testing, which involves withstanding presentation attacks based on sophisticated artifacts like latex masks and 3D-printed face molds. Successful evaluation subjects are required to detect every presentation attack in a battery of tests; in other words, the False Acceptance Rate must remain at zero percent.

Knomi’s success is therefore a major achievement for Aware, especially since the mobile authentication solution has emerged as a key component of the company’s biometric solutions portfolio.

The news comes after Aware added another biometric modality – voice recognition – to the Knomi platform back in May, and on the heels of an update to the on-device version of Knomi earlier this month.
