Aware Debuts “Intelligent Liveness” at Identity Week America

Aware has introduced a new liveness detection solution, “Intelligent Liveness,” at Identity Week America in Washington, D.C., positioning the technology as a significant step forward in biometric security and user experience. The company says the platform unites the speed of passive liveness detection with the accuracy of active methods, while reducing friction for end users.

Faster capture, higher precision

According to Aware, Intelligent Liveness cuts the average capture time from three or four seconds to under one second and improves error rates by about 50 percent. The system is designed to respond to increasingly sophisticated spoofing attacks, using a defense-in-depth approach combined with machine learning. Executives argue that the dual approach delivers “trust and usability, speed and security,” in the words of CEO Ajay Amlani.

The solution is intended for high-value use cases such as financial onboarding, healthcare access, government services, and travel identity verification. In each of these areas, the company notes that organizations are under pressure to balance secure identity checks with a seamless customer journey. “This is a paradigm shift in biometric security,” said Chief Technology Officer Mohamed Lazzouni. He emphasized that the new architecture allows Aware to retrain models quickly, reducing research and development cycles from nine to twelve months to as little as three weeks in order to address new attack methods.

Building on performance pedigree

The launch follows Aware’s strong performance earlier this year in independent testing. In June, the company reported best-in-class results in the Department of Homeland Security’s RIVTD Track 3 program, which assessed the effectiveness of passive presentation attack detection. That performance provided validation of Aware’s claims about speed and convenience for passive methods, and the new product is presented as a way of blending those strengths with the enhanced security of active verification.

This emphasis on innovation was recently reflected in recent recognition the company received when it was named a “Luminary” in the Prism Report earlier this year. At the time, Aware also introduced a series of platform upgrades, underscoring its commitment to advancing biometric technologies at pace with emerging threats.

Strategic direction and new markets

The announcement also fits within the strategic shift outlined by Amlani earlier this year, when he signaled a stronger focus on government contracts. By positioning its technology as both secure and adaptable, Aware appears to be targeting the kinds of mission-critical deployments that public sector partners increasingly demand.

Beyond government, the company has sought to expand its footprint in other high-stakes industries. In April, Aware entered the regulated gaming market through a distribution partnership with SCCG Management, a move that highlights the versatility of its biometric verification tools across different verticals.

Industry context

The debut at Identity Week America reflects the central role liveness detection now plays in digital identity. With fraud attempts rising and generative AI expanding the range of potential spoofing threats, vendors are under pressure to deliver both stronger defenses and faster user experiences. Aware’s framing of Intelligent Liveness as both a technological and an operational improvement—shorter capture times, higher accuracy, and quicker adaptation to new spoof vectors—speaks to those demands. Coupled with recent recognition, strategic repositioning, and sectoral expansion, the launch points to a company intent on shaping the next phase of biometric verification.
