authID has been selected by an unnamed East Coast technology provider serving the criminal justice sector to deliver biometric identity proofing and authentication for online educational services in correctional facilities, expanding the vendor’s footprint in distance learning use cases. The customer, which provides education, re-entry, and rehabilitation resources for adult and juvenile incarcerated individuals, is replacing a homegrown biometric solution after a competitive evaluation and proof-of-concept.

Under the agreement, authID will deploy its cloud platform to authenticate facility administrators, staff, internal support teams, and incarcerated learners. The solution combines authID’s Proof product for initial biometric identity verification with its Verified service for ongoing authentication, anchored by the company’s PrivacyKey technology. PrivacyKey replaces facial images with unphishable public keys that can be revoked, refreshed as juveniles age, and used to perform deduplication and identity search, which is positioned as critical for preventing multiple enrollments by the same individual and reducing fraud.

authID emphasizes several advantages over the previous in-house system, including stronger spoofing resistance tailored to the high-risk correctional environment, higher uptime backed by service-level agreements, and a rapid implementation timeline that the company says can be completed in about two weeks. The platform does not require personal devices, which is important in facilities where inmate access to phones and tablets is heavily restricted. The company also stresses that biometric templates are deleted after each transaction, arguing that this design avoids creating a concentrated honeypot of stored biometric data while still supporting account recovery and fraud prevention.

authID positions the deployment as both an entry into the correctional education segment and as part of a broader strategy to bind trusted human identities to digital services and, in future, to agentic AI. For CISOs overseeing high-risk, regulated environments, the contract highlights increasing demand for biometric authentication that can survive adversarial testing by technically sophisticated users, while also meeting privacy and data-minimization requirements for vulnerable populations such as juveniles.
