In the mobile biometrics industry, Fingerprint Cards needs no introduction. The company is one of the largest suppliers of fingerprint sensors for the smartphone market, and has also seen a growing number of integrations into other consumer electronics like tablets and notebook computers. And while FPC could have rested on its laurels as rivals have flooded the market, the company has proven to be proactive in evolving its technology and even expanding beyond mobile biometrics solutions.
At this year’s Mobile World Congress, FindBiometrics President Peter O’Neill had the opportunity to discuss those efforts with FPC’s CEO, Christian Fredrikson. The two began their conversation with a discussion of FPC’s latest technologies, including its FPC1291 single-chip fingerprint sensor, and ultrasonic sensor technology designed for integration under a mobile device’s display. They then move onto what’s next – not just the “fast pace of innovation” that Fredrikson expects to continue through 2018, but also the rapid emergence of the biometric payment card, for which Fredrikson offers a few thoughtful explanations.
