“This also confirms that our new strategy, to offer customer service, support and product development in Asia in order to strengthen our presence in local key markets, has borne fruit.” – Stefan K. Person, CEO, Precise Biometrics
Precise Biometrics has established a new licensing agreement with “a leading fingerprint sensor supplier from Asia,” the company has announced.
The agreement concerns Precise Biometrics’ Precise BioMatch Mobile algorithm software, which will be used to support an in-display fingerprint sensor for mobile devices. It also entails support and maintenance fees, which will take effect in the second half of this year.
Precise Biometrics says the royalty revenues from this agreement are depending on volumes and can’t yet be forecast.
In its Annual Report published this past March, Precise Biometrics had indicated that despite drops in the average selling price of capacitive fingerprint sensors in the mobile market, it was nevertheless well positioned to offer software for emerging in-display fingerprint sensors in particular. The new partnership offers some evidence to that point, and delivers some validation to the company’s strategy of opening a new office in Shanghai to serve the APAC market, according to CEO Stefan K. Persson.
“We are pleased to announce this collaboration as it further strengthens our position as a leading technology provider of fingerprint software,” he said in a statement announcing the new agreement. “This also confirms that our new strategy, to offer customer service, support and product development in Asia in order to strengthen our presence in local key markets, has borne fruit.”
Meanwhile, Precise Biometrics is also strongly focused on pursuing the emerging biometric payment cards market – the subject of our recent interview with the company’s Sales VP, Fredrik Sjöholm, and NXP Semiconductors VP Sébastien Clamagirand.
