Fingerprint Cards (FPC) is enjoying another high profile smartphone integration. The company has announced that its FPC1035 fingerprint sensor has been implemented in Xiaomi’s new Red Mi Note 3 mobile device.
In a statement, FPC CEO Jörgen Lantto called Xiaomi “a leading global smartphone manufacturer”, adding, “we are proud that Xiaomi selected FPC1035 for Red Mi Note 3.” Lantto went on to assert that this sensor “supports 360 degree finger rotation capability, fast response time and industry leading 3D image quality” – attributes that likely also played a role in the sensor’s integration into ivvi’s new XiaoGu Pro smartphone, also announced this week.
According to GSM Arena, the new device will be available in a 16GB model and a 32GB model, priced at $140 and $172 respectively. That makes the Red Mi Note 3 integration another instance of a trend that has seen fingerprint sensors implemented on lower-budget devices, inching down the price spectrum from their preponderance in the luxury range.
The new integration adds fuel to FPC’s fire, with the company having enjoyed rising profits as the smartphone fingerprint sensor market continues to expand. FPC says revenues for this latest integration have been factored into its revenue guidance for the fiscal year, which ranges between 2,750 and 2,850 MSEK.
