Aratek Unveils New A900 Ten-print Fingerprint Scanner

Aratek is continuing to build up its portfolio of fingerprint scanners. The company’s latest offering is the A900, a new ten-print scanner that is capable of roll, plain, and 4-4-2 fingerprint collection.  

The A900 boasts FBI FAP 60 certification, and has a Live Finger Detection system to guard against spoofing. The device itself has a rugged design that can withstand harsh conditions, with an IP65 rating to protect against dust and moisture and a durable platen that makes the scanner resistant to various residues. As a result, the A900 can collect a high-quality image from virtually any finger, even if that finger is dirty, wet, or rougher than normal.

The A900 was also designed with an eye toward user-friendliness. The device has a built-in speaker and a 2.8” LCD screen, which together provide the user with audio-visual cues to guide them through the capture process. That walkthrough provides details about finger sequence and position, and indicates whether or not each stage of the process was successful.

The biometric data collected with the A900 is secured with AES-256 encryption. The device also supports multiple interoperability standards, with a comprehensive SDK that allows other developers to add fingerprint utility into their own applications.

“With the pandemic forcing businesses and governments to give the digital-first strategy a serious thought, identification and authentication will continue to provide the security underpinning for this move towards complete digitalization,” said Aratek International Business VP Samuel Wu.

Aratek believes that the A900 will be particularly popular in Africa, where governments can use the device to support digital identity initiatives. For example, the scanner could be used to register voters, or to enroll people in broader national ID programs.

The A900 is the third Aratek fingerprint scanner to arrive in the past twelve months alone. The dual-print FAP 45 A800 scanner recently made its way to Latin America, while the FAP 30 A700 debuted back in February following a soft launch in 2020. In the interim, the company upgraded its FAP 20 A600 scanner with the introduction of a new Match-on-Device feature.
