Aratek Biometric Handheld Features Face, Fingerprint Capabilities

Aratek has officially launched its latest biometric handheld. The BM7550 tablet supports both face and fingerprint recognition, and includes a contactless NFC card reader.

The company believes that the handheld will have applications in a range of different industries, including law enforcement and healthcare. It also argues that it can be used to verify the identities of voters during an election. The device boasts an FBI FAP20 optical fingerprint scanner that is compliant with the latest STQC and ISO19794-2 standards, and utilizes a 2MP Dual HDR Camera to enable the capture of facial images in adverse lighting conditions.

“The BM7550 addresses the demand for sophisticated identification and authentication solutions with multi-biometric and multi-factor authentication features,” said Aratek International Business Division VP Samuel Wu. “By integrating facial recognition, fingerprint sensor and contactless NFC in a single solution, the BM7550 terminal gives unparalleled security, accuracy and reliability.”

Aratek is using its own facial recognition algorithm in the BM7550. Other features include WIFI and Bluetooth capabilities, as well as a GPS chip that can track the device’s location and travel history.

The BM7550 represents a significant upgrade over Aratek’s Marshall handheld, which only supported fingerprint recognition when it debuted in early 2019. The company has spent much of the past year working to improve its facial recognition capabilities, building up to the release of its TruFace facial recognition terminals in October. The introduction of facial recognition in the BM7550 would seem to speak to the success of those efforts.
