Anonybit has integrated support for iris and voice recognition into its flagship platform for decentralized biometric data security. The development is the result of collaborations with EyeLock and ID R&D, respectively.
Anonybit’s platform is designed to securely store sensitive data, including biometric templates, by essentially breaking the data into pieces, and storing each piece in a different server. A hack attack or data breach against one server can retrieve only a small, cryptographically scrambled piece of the puzzle, which is effectively worthless and unusable as a result.
While the platform can be used to store a wide range of sensitive data, including things like financial documents and internal corporate documents, the secure storage of biometric data has been a central focus. Anonybit seeks to make biometric identity assurance even more secure by ensuring that the biometric templates used in such systems can never be hacked.
Anonybit has previously announced the integrations of facial and palm recognition through partnerships with ROC and Armatura, and is now expanding the number of modalities supported by its vendor-agnostic system.
“Adding voice and iris biometrics to our platform is a significant step in establishing a root of trust as enterprises seek to enable different experiences across various channels,” explained co-founder and CEO Frances Zelazny. “By supporting any biometric algorithm and any modality, we eliminate silos and reduce cybersecurity risks by ensuring there is never a fallback to passwords, PINs, or knowledge-based questions throughout the user lifecycle.”
In announcing the integrations, Anonybit emphasized that different modalities can prove to be particularly appropriate for different applications. Voice recognition is a natural fit for call centers, for example, while iris recognition offers a highly secure and contactless means of authentication for high-security environments like pharmaceutical labs, where faces may be blocked by masks.
While Anonybit’s own technology is highly innovative, the company is bolstering the value proposition of its platform by teaming up with highly respected biometrics vendors in their own right. ID R&D, for example, continually refines its sophisticated biometric technologies through its intensive engineering labs, which ID Tech had the opportunity to tour earlier this year.
Anonybit’s Zelazny is inviting additional biometric specialists to integrate their solutions into the platform. “Anonybit offers a straightforward guide for any algorithm provider looking to port their solution to the platform, making the process quick and efficient—often completed within a matter of hours—allowing providers to seamlessly integrate their technology into a privacy-first framework,” she said.
