Anonybit, ROC Team Up on Decentralized Face Matching

Anonybit and Rank One Computing have engaged in a partnership that could prove to be a giant leap in the promotion of decentralized biometric matching.

Anonybit, founded by former BioCatch executive Frances Zelazny, raised eyebrows earlier this year with its innovative approach to the storage of biometric data, which Anonybit’s platform breaks down into shards of “anonybits” that are stored across multiple servers. Now, the partnership with ROC will fuse that decentralized approach with a popular modality – facial recognition.

It’s the modality for which ROC is best known, with the company having demonstrated a 200 percent accuracy improvement in testing through the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s FRVT Ongoing program earlier this year. That brought ROC’s technology within 0.5 percent of the most accurate facial recognition solution in every FRVT category, with ROC’s average accuracy clocking in at 99.4 percent.

For ROC’s part, CEO Scott Swann expressed excitement about partnering with Anonybit and leveraging its “privacy-by-design, data sharding architecture”, noting that it “greatly reduces the potential for future data breaches”.

The companies plan to unveil further details of their collaboration in the coming weeks, with plans for a fireside chat discussion to coincide with Identity Week America in October.
