Anonybit has achieved a major technology breakthrough, giving clients the ability to perform one-to-many biometric matches without relying on a central database. In doing so, Anonybit is able to provide those clients with a more comprehensive set of biometric tools while still more or less eliminating the risk of a large scale data breach.
Anonybit is best known for its decentralized biometric cloud, which functions much like any other biometric solution as far as the user experience is concerned. People are asked to submit their biometric data, and Anonybit can compare the result of a new scan to that existing data to verify someone’s identity.
The difference is that Anonybit does not store its data in a central location, and instead breaks each biometric template down into several parts and distributes them across a broader network. Since the pieces are all stored in different locations (as well as encrypted and anonymized), hackers cannot recreate or use someone’s data even if they do manage to get ahold of one bit of information. Anonybit’s system, on the other hand, can still process the components together to generate a match for authentication.
In the past, Anonybit’s system could only perform one-to-one matches, which limited the platform primarily to online authentication use cases. The latest update enables one-to-many matching, giving the platform greater utility for more large-scale government identity and access control applications, where an organization needs to match a new face to a specific name. Private businesses can also use the technology for deduplication during customer onboarding to better guard against fraud.

Anonybit’s platform comes with liveness detection and offers support for multiple biometric modalities, including face, fingerprint, iris, and voice recognition. It is also compatible with third-party biometric algorithms, which allows partners like FacePhi and Aware to integrate Anonybit’s technology with their own identification systems.
