AMREL Launches New FAP50 Rugged Tablet

AMREL has launched a new FAP50 mobile fingerprint scanner designed for use in law enforcement. Dubbed the BioSense AT80 Max, the rugged tablet is being billed as the lightest biometric device of its kind, and is sophisticated enough to overlook latent prints on the platen and to make full FBI-certified ten-finger readings in a range of adverse conditions.

“Law-enforcement and security professionals that need mobility and accurate high-resolution fingerprint scans now have access to the most up-to-date biometric technology on a proven platform,” said Kalvin Chen, AMREL’s VP of Operations.

The AT80 Max uses Light Emitting Sensor tech that allows it to shrug off dirt, heat, and sunlight, amongst other potential pitfalls commonly encountered in the field. The tablet also meets the requirements for GSA and PIV FIPS 201, and boasts front/rear 5MP cameras, an 8” LCD multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display, a GPS, and full wireless capabilities, amongst its other features.

AMREL will be showcasing the new device at Connect:ID 2019 from April 30th to May 1st. The company also recently launched the BioFlex S, which turns any Samsung smartphone into a rugged mobile device. However, the rugged specialist is now facing some competition in the law enforcement market thanks to the debut of the RapID X1 from IDEMIA.
