Ahead of DeepMind Summer School, Innovatrics Adds DNA to ABIS

Innovatrics has added the modality of DNA to its Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) for law enforcement. The solution allows investigators to match DNA collected from crime scenes against profiles within the biometric database; and in some cases it could also connect a subject to other forms of biometrics, such as fingerprints.

“By analyzing patterns, identifying familial connections, and cross-referencing with other evidence, investigators can accurately build immutable evidence necessary to close even the most complex cases,” the company explained in a statement announcing the DNA matching system.

The new functionality is the result of a strategic partnership with Veridos announced near the start of this year, with the companies having explained at the time that they would seek to integrate Veridos’s VeriDNA solution with Innovatrics’ ABIS.

News of the integration comes alongside Innovatrics’ newly announced plans to participate in the Eastern European Machine Learning (EEML) Summer School, organized by researchers with DeepMind, Google’s AI subsidiary. EEML Summer School is a one-week program that includes both lectures and hands-on labs, and takes place at a different Eastern European location each year. This time, it will be in Kosice, Slovakia.

Innovatrics’s Image Data Synthesis Lead, Igor Janos, is one of three industry keynote speakers scheduled for the educational program, alongside Deepmind researcher Viorica Patraucean and Jakub Dębski, the Chief Product Officer for digital security software firm ESET. Janos will be on hand to demonstrate how Innovatrics uses generative AI to improve its fingerprint matching algorithms in situations in which real-world data is limited or unavailable.

Together with the integration of DNA matching into Innovatrics’ ABIS, the company’s plans to participate in this year’s EEML Summer School further underscore the company’s industriousness as it continues to raise its profile as a developer of sophisticated biometric and identity technology. The latest developments come just a couple of months after Innovatrics revealed that it had attained the top accuracy ranking in single-eye iris recognition in the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s ongoing Iris Exchange (“IREX”) testing program.
