Acuity Market Intelligence’s latest Prism report of 2024, focused on biometric and identity technology in the public sector, is now available to download as a preview.
When released, the “Biometric Digital Identity Government Services Prism Report” is expected to emphasize the fundamental role of government services in establishing and validating citizen identities, positioning the government sector as a key element of the biometric digital identity landscape.
The authors note that by integrating technologies such as mobile biometrics, liveness detection, document validation, and trusted government records, digitalized citizen identity can serve as a core identity form factor across both physical and digital spaces. The report outlines how government-issued digital IDs need interoperability to function across various jurisdictions and devices effectively.
The Government Services Prism Report also looks to offer a holistic analysis of the challenges faced by government services and how biometric solutions can address them. Furthermore, it introduces the Prism Identity Hierarchy, a visual representation of how biometric identity solutions are at the core of government services, and presents original market forecasts detailing the potential opportunities for vendors in this space.
Case studies and vendor evaluations provide insights into how biometric identity solutions are currently being deployed in government applications such as civil ID, passports, immigration, and law enforcement.
Overall, the report advocates for a future where biometric digital identity solutions enhance government services, emphasizing security, convenience, and inclusivity.
This is Acuity’s third report of the year, following the June release of the “Biometric Digital Identity Financial Services Prism Report” and a travel and hospitality-focused edition released just last month.
In the financial services report, Acuity highlighted a $40 billion growth opportunity for biometric technology in that sector by 2028, and noted that global revenues from biometric digital identity solutions are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 41.2 percent, with North America leading in revenue and the Asia-Pacific region dominating transaction volumes.
It also highlighted that financial services organizations are adopting biometric technologies to enhance efficiency, automate processes, and improve fraud protection and risk mitigation, with key applications including identity-based access, onboarding, authentication, and time tracking for both customers and employees.
That report identified challenges such as the need for digital transformation, cybersecurity threats, regulatory requirements, and evolving customer expectations. Biometric solutions help address these issues by streamlining verification processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing customer experiences by reducing transaction friction.
Last month’s “Biometric Digital Identity Travel and Hospitality Report” – unveiled by Acuity Principal Analyst, Maxine Most at Identity Week America in Washington, D.C. – turned its attention to the significant growth potential for biometric solutions in travel, emphasizing organizations like SITA, Indicio, and Wicket, which was recognized as a Luminary for its innovative use of facial recognition to enable fast and seamless stadium access. The report outlines how biometric technologies can enhance security, improve customer experiences, and streamline operations in travel and tourism.
