Acuant Clears iBeta PAD Level 2 Requirements

Acuant has become the latest company to pass iBeta’s liveness detection test. The company’s facial recognition technology has now cleared Level 1 and Level 2 of the PAD evaluation, which means that Acuant FaceID is now compliant with the latest ISO/IEC 30107-3 standards.

The Level 2 clearance indicates that Acuant FaceID is able to thwart deepfakes and video recordings in addition to more conventional forms of spoofing, which can range from static photos to more ambitious projects like masks and dolls. That liveness detection ensures that the real person is both present and aware when they submit to a facial recognition scan.

Acuant is hoping that FaceID will help meet the demand for remote and contactless authentication options during the pandemic. To that end, the company has paired FaceID with its own AssureID document recognition solution to facilitate mobile onboarding. The setup uses AssureID to verify the authenticity of an identity document, and then uses FaceID to match a selfie (with liveness detection) to the photo on that document.

Acuant FaceID is available in Standard, Government, and Enhanced packages. The first two offer an optional Advanced Passive Liveness Test, while the latter includes it as a default, and also comes with a replay detection feature that warns about potential fraud if the same face is scanned multiple times in quick succession.

The news comes shortly after Acuant integrated iProov’s Flashmark tech to augment the liveness detection capabilities of its own Trusted identity Platform. Acuant is one of only a handful of companies to achieve Level 2 PAD compliance. Aware accomplished the feat in September, while IDEMIA did the same back in February.
