“The deal reflects the growing importance of biometric background checks for organizations operating in sensitive areas.”
Illinois-based Accurate Biometrics has won a contract to provide live scan fingerprinting services for Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, a particle physics-focused national laboratory near Chicago.
As the Daily Herald reports, the contract is for background checks of the lab’s employees, with Accurate Biometrics to scan individuals for matching against FBI criminal databases. It’s a one-year contract, with the potential for renewal of up to four years.
The deal reflects the growing importance of biometric background checks for organizations operating in sensitive areas. Fermilab is the host of DUNE, an international project involving the construction of an experimental neutrino facility deep underground. The particle physics to be explored through DUNE and in Fermilab’s ongoing research require great care with respect to safeguards, highlighting the need to ensure that facility staff do not pose a security risk.
For its part, Accurate Biometrics has offered fingerprinting services for almost 20 years, and was one of the first companies in the US to submit fingerprints to a state-level AFIS for noncriminal justice history background checks. The company has locations in Illinois, Florida, and California.
