Zwipe has revealed another of its partners in its ongoing efforts to prepare for large-scale commercial deployments of biometric payment cards. In this case, the partner in question is Beautiful Card Corporation (or “BCC”), a Taiwan-based card maker that has been in operation for three decades.
The companies first agreed on a partnership in December. They have since been working together to develop a biometric card solution based on Zwipe Pay ONE, Zwipe’s flagship biometric payment card platform. The companies have been testing the solution and are aiming to initialize pilot programs and commercial deployments by the end of this year.
“We are seeing increasing interest in biometric payment cards in our region, especially as consumers become much more familiar with contactless payments and demand safer and more hygienic payment alternatives in store,” explained BCC CEO and Chairperson Peggy Wu. “We have worked seamlessly together and have been able to adapt our manufacturing processes to integrate Zwipe’s biometric solution in our card production and are very pleased with the results.”
The revelation arrives on the heels of Zwipe’s announcement of its major partnership with FSS, a global provider of card issuance solutions. And it would seem to dovetail with regional strategic aims indicated in that announcement, which say Zwipe CEO André Løvestam emphasizing the market opportunities of the Asia region in particular.
“The Asia Pacific Region, led by countries like Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and India, continues to innovate and lead the world in many areas of payment card technology,” Løvestam said in the company’s latest announcement. “We are very pleased that BCC is embracing the Zwipe platform and bringing our collaboration forward, to jointly address the needs of banks and consumers in Asia and global markets.”
Løvestam recently demonstrated Zwipe’s contactless biometric payment card solution in a promotional video showing a card in action.
