Zwipe has added another building block to its growing international distribution network for biometric payment cards. Its newest partner is Silkways Card & Printing Ltd. – or “Silkcard” – a card provider based in Bangladesh.
The latter has been in operation for over 15 years, and offers a range of card services, including personalized EMV and non-EMV credit and debit cards. Its offerings are Visa, Mastercard, and PCI DSS certified, and it currently delivers more than 12 million payment cards to its clients annually.
Now, thanks to its partnership with Zwipe, Silkcard will be in a position to manufacture and customize biometric cards for its issuer clients. What’s more, the companies have agreed to work together in Bangladesh to assist banks “through all stages of pilot, launch and mass market rollout,” according to a statement announcing the partnership.
“Biometric Payment Cards is a high-impact initiative and the future of contactless payments, lifting safety and convenience to a completely new level for our issuer customers and consumers alike,” said SK Farid Ahmed, Silkcard’s Managing Director. “We see Zwipe Pay ONE as the state-of-the-art technology on biometric payment cards and look forward to a close collaboration with Zwipe.”
The development comes on the heels of Zwipe’s announcement that it had established a distribution partnership with Middle East Payment Services earlier this month. Zwipe also announced partnerships with FSS and with Taiwan’s Beautiful Card Corporation last month.
Commenting on Zwipe’s newest partnership, CEO André Løvestam gestured to a significant addressable market in Bangladesh. “With a population of over 166 million and an economy growing over 7% per year, this market represents significant growth potential for our innovation from security, financial inclusion and innovation perspectives,” he said.
