Zwipe Gets Chinese Distribution Partner for Biometric Card Solution

Zwipe has a new distribution partner for its biometric payment card technology. The company has teamed up with Silone CardTech, a Shenzhen-based card manufacturer certified by Mastercard, Visa, JCB, and China UnionPay.

The partnership will see Silone launch biometric cards featuring Zwipe technology with “banks and loyalty programs in China,” according to a statement from Zwipe. The company asserted that Silone “has already received interest from customers for biometric payment cards”, and asserted that pilot projects are “expected to be identified in the coming months.”

Commenting on Silone’s interest in working with Zwipe in this area, the company’s CEO, William Ju, asserted that his firm had “thoroughly evaluated the various offerings in the market” and concluded that “Zwipe’s technology platform was the only offering genuinely capable of performing battery-less dual-interface biometric authentication within the rigors of the existing payment card ecosystem”. Ju added that Silone’s customers include “some of the largest banks and loyalty programs in China,” and said that Silone is confident that Zwipe’s solution “will be well received in the marketplace.”

The partnership is the latest sign that biometric payment cards are soon going to represent an important part of the payments market, with multiple other biometrics specialists busily preparing their own solutions, along with major financial services providers including Visa and Mastercard.
