Zwipe is celebrating alongside IDEX and IDEMIA now that VISA and Mastercard have officially certified IDEMIA’s F.CODE biometric payment card. The certification covers all of the technology that was used to build the card, including IDEX’s IDX3405 fingerprint sensor and Zwipe’s Pay ONE solution.
The news paves the way for the commercialization of biometric payment cards. Card issuers and manufacturers will still need to get approval for their own offerings, but they can move forward with F.CODE knowing that the technology has formal Letters of Approval from two of the world’s largest payment schemes.
For its part, Zwipe supplied IDEMIA with an ISO module that consists of a single silicon biometric Secure Element in addition to a passive inlay. The element works in conjunction with the IDEX fingerprint sensor to verify the identity of the cardholder during a transaction.
Zwipe and IDEMIA have been collaborating on biometric card projects since the fourth quarter of 2019. The company has since formed a stronger alliance with IDEX Biometrics, which means that Zwipe can sell the IDX3405 sensor directly to interested customers.
IDEX was the first of the three companies to begin celebrating after IDEMIA received its VISA Letter of Approval last week. The second Letter of Approval from Mastercard should only heighten the festivities.
Zwipe has entered into several biometric card partnerships in the past few months, and is already working to bring cards to customers all over the world. The company is hoping to reach Latin America through a partnership with IC Payments, and is targeting the Middle East through deals with Inkript and Que Processing Services, amongst several others. Zwipe is also participating in a biometric card pilot with a Tier 1 bank in Europe, though the company has not yet disclosed the name of its partner for that particular project.
