Zwipe and LEGIC Identsystems have introduced a new biometric feature for LEGIC-based access control systems, integrating fingerprint authentication directly into smartcards through the LEGIC neon on card solution. The LEGIC integration ads a layer of biometric security by requiring successful fingerprint verification before credentials stored on the card are released.
Users can unlock access by placing a finger on the card’s built-in sensor, enabling seamless interaction with NFC readers without the need for PINs or passwords. The technology, already available for LEGIC neon smartphones – devices equipped with LEGIC’s technology, allowing them to securely manage and verify digital credentials using contactless communication – is now accessible for smartcards, enabling broader use of biometric verification in physical and logical access systems.
“We are delighted to bring multi-factor authentication to LEGIC neon-based cards,” said Christoph Beckenbauer, General Manager at LEGIC Identsystems. “This product seamlessly extends biometric verification to smartcards, which was previously only available with LEGIC neon for smartphones.”
LEGIC Identsystems is a Swiss-based company specializing in secure identification and credentialing technologies, that provides solutions for access control, cashless payments, and mobile services using smartcards, RFID, and NFC technologies.
“LEGIC neon is a uniquely secure and flexible technology.” Robert Puskaric, President and CEO of Zwipe, added, “We are proud that LEGIC has chosen to partner with us, leveraging our Zwipe Access platform to enhance the security of their application.”
This is the latest in a flurry of announcements from Zwipe in recent weeks. Late last month, Zwipe revealed that a “leading U.S.-based social media and IT company” is testing its Zwipe Access biometric cards to potentially enhance security across its global facilities. A few days after that, ID Tech reported that an unidetified “major global music streaming and media service provider” is testing Zwipe’s biometric access cards to enhance security measures across its facilities.
