ISC West was last week, and served as an excellent start to findBIOMETRICS’ physical access control month. One of the big topics of conversation has been the Zwipe biometric card, which made its debut at last week’s conference in Las Vegas.
It looks like we aren’t the only people talking about the company’s contactless biometric security solution. Today, Zwipe announced that the first showing of the physical access technology went so well that the company received a new product award from the Security Industry Association.
Kim Kristian Humborstad, Zwipe’s CEO, is particularly impressed by the warm reception that the company’s product received at ISC West.
“We have been completely blown away by the interest shown to our products,” he says. “As this was our first proper showing at a trade show, we were unsure what to expect. The reaction and feedback we have received far exceeded any expectations we had.”
Though Humborstad is surprised by the reaction, the demand for a solution like the Zwipe access card was certainly in place to allow for such a reaction. A contactless security card with an embedded fingerprint sensor, the Zwipe product authenticates a user on-card before allowing for the subsequent signalling a positive verification on a terminal and then entry.
It is a solution that attacks biometric adoption barriers by design: contactless card solutions are already used by many organizations, so in many cases the deployment doesn’t require any new infrastructure to be installed, and because the biometrics are all managed on Zwipe’s device, template and terminal management doesn’t even need to enter into the equation.
For a good idea about the ideas behind Zwipe’s technology, be sure to read our interview with Kim Kristian Humborstad. Keep posted to findBIOMETRICS throughout the month of April for more news and features on physical access control.
