ZKTeco USA and Credence ID are teaming up to advance IT infrastructure for mobile IDs. The companies have announced that they will work together to integrate Credence’s mobile driver’s license (mDL) technology into ZKTeco’s various visitor management and access control systems.
The collaboration is important for the growing acceptance of mobile ID technology, given the prominence of ZKTeco and its various access control systems, which are in place at corporate offices, higher education campuses, and government buildings, among other types of locations. Ultimately, the companies are aiming to pave the way for a visitor access landscape in which authorized individuals can easily scan their smartphone-based mDL to access facilities, without the need to present a physical ID card.
This would not only enhance convenience for the end user, but also protect privacy by allowing the user to share only the information needed to confirm access. There wouldn’t be a need to share things like home address, date of birth, and other extraneous details.
“As more and more states launch their mDL initiatives, it is critical for relying parties to be able to easily accept this more modern, secure, and privacy-preserving method of ID presentation,” explained Credence ID CEO Bruce Hanson. “The public is quickly embracing the practice of downloading their state-issued IDs onto their smart devices and now they want to use their phone instead of their physical ID card everywhere they want to identify themselves.”
The companies say that they are aiming to bring mDL support to all of ZKTeco USA’s visitor management systems by the end of this year—an ambitious aim, but one that tracks with the rapid emergence of mDLs in the U.S.
ZKTeco is already well known for its pioneering efforts in emerging technologies, having established itself as a leading provider of biometric access solutions that CEO Manish Dalal has highlighted for FindBiometrics at high-profile industry conferences in recent years.
