“…NCR is planning to integrate the app into its NCR FastLane SelfServ Checkout solution, as a means of enabling shoppers to use Yoti as proof of age at self-serve checkouts.”
A new partnership with self-serve checkout specialist NCR Corporation is poised to expand the use of Yoti‘s biometric mobile ID platform.
Yoti’s is another of the popular selfie-based authentication solutions, leveraging facial recognition to enable end users to verify their identities using a standard smartphone camera. But it also allows users to upload official identity documents, turning the app into a kind of virtual ID system.
Now, NCR is planning to integrate the app into its NCR FastLane SelfServ Checkout solution, as a means of enabling shoppers to use Yoti as proof of age at self-serve checkouts. That can be done either with the app itself, or using facial biometrics technology through cameras built into the checkout kiosks, which can estimate a given user’s age automatically.
Yoti first made its mark with pilot projects in UK supermarkets about a year ago, and it could soon see large-scale versions of those deployments thanks to the partnership with NCR. The companies haven’t offered a timeline for the NCR FastLane SelfServ Checkout integration, but Yoti said in a statement that it expects trials in both the UK and the US “in the coming months.”
