2019 proved to be another year that saw a number of major developments in the biometrics industry – technological advancements, important partnerships, regulatory changes, and more. But it also delivered a new outlet for industry leaders to communicate in the form of the ID Talk podcast, presented by FindBiometrics and Mobile ID World.
Now, with industry professionals and adjacent experts sharing their views through FindBiometrics’ 2019 Year in Review survey, it’s a good time to look back on what some of the industry’s leading executives had to say in their interviews on ID Talk:
The podcast had its soft launch in the spring, with interviews with Aware, Inc. VP David Benini, and with Precise Biometrics VP Fredrik Sjöholm and NXP Semiconductors VP Sébastien Clamagirand. Then it returned in September, now officially under the banner of ID Talk, with Benini returning to discuss government biometrics, open ABIS systems, and the phenomenon of “vendor lock-in”:

Next up was Benji Hucthinson, NEC Corporation of America’s VP of Federal Operations, who came on to discuss the US government’s growing biometric entry/exit program, controversy over facial recognition, and America’s biggest biometric databases:
In November, the ID Talk podcast welcomed two guests from Paravision – the company’s CEO, Doug Aley, and its Chief Product Offers, Joey Pritikin. These two were not shy to discuss facial recognition controversy either, diving into their views on related privacy and ethical issues that the industry faces:

That was a pertinent topic for Face Biometrics Month at FindBiometrics; meanwhile, at Mobile ID World, November was Biometric Smart Cards Month, so naturally the podcast welcomed IDEX Biometrics VP David Orme. IDEX has emerged as one of the leaders in the growing biometric smart cards and payment cards market, and Orme had much to say on the topic:

And the most recent episode of the ID Talk podcast returned to the topic of facial recognition, with StoneLock VP Yanik Brunet coming on to discuss the evolution of the security industry, the major challenges in biometric deployments, and the increasing importance of liveness detection technology:

There will be plenty more discussion as ID Talk rolls into 2020, so stay tuned and be sure to subscribe through Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts.
