China-based electronics maker Xiaomi has a new flagship smartphone in the works, and it looks like it’s going to sport some advances features. The Mi Note 2 will have dual rear cameras, and is expected to have a fingerprint scanner built into its home button.
Among other features anticipated for the device are 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 5.7″ QHD display. It’s also going to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor.
As techradar.india points out, Xiaomi’s Mi Note line has been aimed at the higher end of the market, which means that the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor isn’t exactly groundbreaking at this point – such technology has quickly become standard on premium smartphones thanks to the pioneering efforts of Apple with its Touch ID system. But it does help to reinforce that trend.
It also continues Xiaomi’s embrace of biometric technology, which has deepened with its recent collaboration with Microsoft in helping to bring Windows 10 to the Chinese market; the new OS can be run on mobile and features its own biometric security apparatus.
