WSO2 has expanded its Agent Fabric platform with a set of identity capabilities aimed at autonomous AI agents, business-to-business ecosystems, and decentralized identity models. The update adds delegated access for actions an agent takes on behalf of a user, asynchronous authentication for long-running agent workflows, and broader identity management for non-human entities operating alongside human accounts.
Agent Fabric is the WSO2 product that sits between an enterprise’s existing systems and the AI agents acting against those systems. The new identity work treats agents as first-class identities that need to be issued credentials, granted scoped permissions, authenticated repeatedly during multi-step tasks, and tied back to a human owner when accountability is required. Delegated access, in this design, is the mechanism by which a human user grants an agent the authority to perform specific actions on their behalf, with revocable scope and a record of which user delegated what to whom. Asynchronous authentication addresses the gap created when an agent’s work takes longer than a typical session, holding state and re-authenticating without breaking the workflow.
“The enterprise challenge today is not simply building AI agents. It is operationalizing them responsibly at scale,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of WSO2, framing the work as a response to the operational side of the AI agent rollout rather than the model layer.
The platform also extends to two adjacent areas. WSO2 said it is strengthening identity management for complex business-to-business ecosystems, in which a single relying party needs to verify users and agents from multiple partner organizations under different identity providers. The second area is decentralized identity. WSO2 has contributed its ThunderID project to the OpenWallet Foundation, an open-source effort to standardize digital wallet implementations. “We are thrilled to welcome WSO2’s ThunderID project to the OpenWallet Foundation,” said Daniel Goldscheider, Founder and Executive Director of the foundation.
The work positions Agent Fabric in the same category of products that SailPoint’s Agentic Fabric and other identity governance vendors are building out: an identity layer designed to discover, govern, and authorize AI agents inside enterprises. WSO2 said additional updates announced alongside the Agent Fabric work include the general availability of OpenChoreo 1.1 and a beta of an Agent Manager component. Partner references include LTM, SUSE, AWS, Microsoft, and IIIT-B/MOSIP.
