The digital identity network World has announced the launch of a Developer Rewards pilot program that will offer up to $300,000 in incentives over three months for developers building “proof-of-human” Mini Apps. The initiative aims to accelerate development of human-verified applications on the platform, which has already reached 10 million verified users despite ongoing regulatory challenges.
The program will distribute rewards in Worldcoin (WLD) tokens based on engagement from World ID-verified users, with top-performing developers eligible to receive up to $25,000 weekly. The three-month pilot begins April 1, 2025.
Alongside the rewards program, World is releasing Mini Apps version 1.2, which introduces several platform improvements including faster loading times, haptic feedback, enhanced customization options, home screen pinning capabilities, and improved iOS search functionality.
“Games have been popular. AI apps/assistants, finance apps, lending apps, airdrop apps, payment apps that let you pay with WLD, and eSIM apps have also been gaining traction,” said Tiago Sada, Chief Product Officer at Tools for Humanity, in an interview with Blockworks.
The World ecosystem currently hosts over 150 mini apps, with third-party developers contributing the majority. The platform has expanded to 30 countries, though it has faced regulatory restrictions in various markets due to concerns about its biometric data collection practices.
The platform’s World ID”>World ID verification system has gained traction beyond its own ecosystem, recently partnering with Razer to combat AI bots in online gaming. This expansion demonstrates growing adoption of World’s human verification technology across different sectors.
Sada emphasized the platform’s focus on creating sustainable value. “It was really difficult to have a sustainable system,” he said. “Now we’re seeing the emergence instead of apps that are able to reward users for actions that are actually valuable for something, and developers can pay for that because it’s not going to be gamed.”
The initiative comes as World continues to expand its services, with recent discussions about potentially adding Visa card functionality to its platform.
