World Digital ID Platform Launches in Six US Cities, Plans Major Expansion

World, the digital identity verification platform formerly known as Worldcoin, has officially launched operations in the United States. The rollout marks a significant expansion of the platform’s global proof-of-humanity network and includes strategic partnerships with companies such as Visa and Match Group.Close-up macro photograph of a frozen dandelion seed head encased in an icy sphere, depicting the intricate details and patterns formed by the delicate structures and ice crystals, illustrating natural phenomena and the beauty of nature’s microscopic world.

U.S. Expansion and Strategic Partnerships

World’s initial U.S. launch spans six major cities—Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, and San Francisco—chosen for their innovation ecosystems. The expansion builds on World’s recent milestone of reaching 10 million verified users worldwide, reflecting growing global interest in using biometric verification to distinguish human users from AI in online platforms.

The platform’s core verification process is powered by “Orbs,” proprietary devices that scan users’ irises and facial features to create unique digital identities, known as World IDs. Verified users can access platform services including financial tools, educational mini-apps, and social applications. They may also claim WLD tokens, a cryptocurrency issued by World.

To support further growth, World plans to deploy 7,500 new Orbs globally by the end of 2025—approximately four times its current deployment. The company is also building a manufacturing facility in Texas to accelerate production for both U.S. and international markets. Although World has not confirmed exact figures, the expansion is expected to significantly increase accessibility across the country.

Several high-profile partnerships are tied to the U.S. launch. Visa is preparing to introduce a co-branded World Visa card that will enable users to make payments using WLD tokens and other cryptocurrencies. Match Group plans to integrate World ID into dating platforms such as Tinder and Hinge in a pilot initiative designed to combat fake profiles. Additional partners include Razer for retail distribution, Stripe for payment infrastructure, and fintech platforms Kalshi and Morpho.

Regulatory Landscape and Ecosystem Growth

The launch comes amid shifting global regulations for AI and blockchain. While World has faced pushback in various regions over data collection concerns, CEO Alex Blania cited growing regulatory clarity in the U.S. as a key reason for moving forward with a full rollout. In contrast with markets where biometric data collection has raised privacy alarms, U.S. regulators have recently signaled a more permissive approach to digital identity innovation.

To support long-term platform development, World has launched a $300,000 developer rewards program aimed at encouraging the creation of “proof-of-human” mini-apps built on the World ecosystem. The company has also brought in new executive talent from major tech firms—including Google and Apple—to help guide its growth strategy in the competitive digital ID landscape.

Looking ahead, World has teased development of a portable biometric device called the Orb Mini, reportedly slated for release in 2026. While official technical details remain limited, the Orb Mini is expected to bring World’s verification capabilities into more mobile and decentralized use cases.
