Smart glasses and Augmented Reality (AR) technology supplier Vuzix and computer vision specialist TensorMark have announced a partnership that will see the Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses as an option to help businesses and venues looking to safely reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
TensorMark recently announced it was moving forward with a strategic initiative that is seeing it partner with the University Hospitals health network — a system made up of 18 hospitals and more than 50 outpatient health centers — to build a database that will allow people to share their COVID-19 test results with venue operators, in real-time.
The partnership with Vuzix now means that venue operators can use the Augmented Reality (AR) tech in the Blade Smart Glasses combined with the computer vision capabilities developed by TensorMark to validate an individual’s test credentials in real-time, as places like sports arenas, office buildings, and concert venues are desperately trying to find a solution that will allow them to safely reopen to the public without increasing the possibility of spreading the virus.
“TensorMark’s goal is to help ensure a safer and healthier environment outside of an individual’s home as well as increase confidence in their safety at participating employers and venues,” said COO and co-founder of TensorMark, Ali Manav. “We are thrilled to be working with Vuzix to offer their Blade Smart Glasses technology as part of our solution for employers and venues,” he added.
In March of this year, Vuzix announced it had collaborated with AR enterprise solutions provider Librestream in the development of a hands-free thermal imaging solution for the detection of individuals with an elevated temperature, as that is one of the symptoms of COVID-19. The solution combined the Vuzix M400 Smart Glasses and Librestream’s Onsight platform, creating a potentially powerful tool for frontline workers to monitor body temperatures from a safe distance.
“Vuzix business continues to expand as our technology is being adopted in more areas as part of the new normal caused by COVID-19,” said Vuzix CEO and president, Paul Travers. “TensorMark’s solution combined with Vuzix smart glasses is yet another example [and] we are pleased to work together with TensorMark to support the community in delivering smart glasses technology to help limit the spread of COVID-19 in a mobile and non-invasive way.”
