VSBLTY, Photon-X to Combine Biometrics and Thermal Imaging Through New Partnership

Another company is looking to supplement its facial recognition offerings with thermal imaging technology. This time around, VSBLTY has teamed up with Photon-X to develop a multi-sensor camera utility that would be able to determine someone’s temperature when they try to enter a building.

As in other instances, the decision to integrate thermal imaging tech was made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fever is one of the primary symptoms of COVID-19, so temperature detection can spot people who might be infected and help slow the spread of the virus.

The VSBLTY and Photon-X solution would be used for access control at smart buildings and other physical locations. The system would combine object recognition and analytics tech from Photon-X with facial recognition from VSBLTY.

According to Photon-X and VSBLTY, the new cameras will be built with existing technology, so they should be able to bring a prototype to market relatively quickly. The system will use infrared tech to take someone’s body surface temperature, and will pair that with heartbeat and oxygen level measurements to reduce the risk of a false positive.

“As the world slowly goes back to work, we will want to be assured that we can do so safely. Thermal detection in buildings, restaurants and public spaces will be an easy detection tool that can augment safety and prevent further contagion,” said VSBLTY Co-founder and CEO Jay Hutton. “This is a safety measure that has long-term value and may well be an essential element in the new economy.”

The VSBLTY news comes in the wake of similar announcements from Vuzix, BioSec, and Hytera, all of which are working to bring temperature detection to their respective biometric identity verification systems. DERMALOG has also highlighted its fever monitoring capabilities.

VSBLTY has been anticipating a strong second quarter performance, and was recently added to the KLArity Ecosystem Partners Platform.
