Vivotek Launches Face-Based Access Control Tablet

Vivotek has unveiled a new tablet with facial recognition capabilities. The FT9361-R is designed primarily for access control, and will be featured at Vivotek’s ISC West booth later in the month.

In terms of utility, the FT9361-R can be mounted at a point of entry to enable contactless user access. The tablet verifies the identities of registered users with facial recognition, and is 99 percent accurate even when the individual is wearing glasses, or if parts of their face are obscured behind a surgical mask or a beard. The platform can distinguish real faces from photos thanks to its use of liveness detection tech, and picks up faces at distances between 30-150 cm.

Each tablet can store as many as 50,000 distinct facial profiles. The backend, meanwhile, allows administrators to group those profiles based on their access control privileges. For example, executives may have different access permissions than rank-and-file employees, while VIPs can be singled out for preferential treatment and blacklisted individuals can be kept out entirely.

The FT9361-R can be further integrated with an employee management system to automate timekeeping procedures. The use of biometrics makes it more difficult for employees to punch in for friends, with Vivotek arguing that the platform is particularly well-suited to environments that need to protect sensitive or confidential resources, such as laboratories, healthcare facilities, and data centers. The FT9361-R also comes with a built-in card reader, so faces can be paired with physical credentials for an additional layer of multi-factor security.

Vivotek integrated CyberLInk’s FaceMe facial recognition technology into its VAST 2 IP video management software offering back in September of 2020. VAST 2 can be used for time and attendance tracking, and Vivotek itself has also leveraged FaceMe for surveillance applications. The FT9361-R will be on display at booth #22015 at ISC West from March 23-25.
