China-based smartphone maker Vivo has formally announced its newest Android devices, the X6 and the X6 Plus, and they’re both going to feature Fingerprint Cards (FPC) biometric sensors.
Rumors of the integration of fingerprint sensors were swirling back in November, when Vivo released teaser images of its forthcoming devices that appears to indicate they would feature the technology. But it’s only now now that FPC has announced it is the sensor supplier. In a statement, FPC CEO Jörgen Lantto said that “Vivo is a leading smartphone manufacturer in China and we are proud that Vivo selected FPC1035 for X6 and X6 Plus,” adding that the sensor in question “supports 360 degree finger rotation capability, fast response time and industry leading 3D image quality.” This same sensor has also recently been integrated into Xiaomi’s new Redmi Note 3, the XiaoGu Pro from ivvi, a Coolpad subsidiary, and the V10 smartphone from LG.
It’s yet another win for FPC as the company enjoys rising revenues amid booming interest in smartphone fingerprint sensors. The company has established itself as a leading supplier to OEMs, particularly in the Asia region, and is expecting continued growth over the next quarter after a very successful Q3.
