“In-display fingerprint scanning eliminates the need for a physical home button, which means that phone makers can make the device’s display take up almost the whole front face of the device without having to move the fingerprint scanner to the rear face of the phone.”
Vivo is expanding its use of in-display fingerprint scanning technology, bringing it to its ‘V’ line of premium smartphones with the new V11.
The device’s international launch in India and Thailand has just been announced. The device features artificial intelligence-enhanced imaging capabilities, supported by 12MP and 5MP cameras, and a virtual assistant system called Jovi. It also has a 6.4″ Super AMOLED Halo FullView display and a 91.27 percent screen-to-body ratio.
That last quality is facilitated in part by the device’s other flagship feature, in-display fingerprint sensor technology. In-display fingerprint scanning eliminates the need for a physical home button, which means that phone makers can make the device’s display take up almost the whole front face of the device without having to move the fingerprint scanner to the rear face of the phone.
Vivo was, of course, the pioneer that first delivered in-display fingerprint scanning technology to the consumer market with its Vivo X20 Plus UD earlier this year, so it’s little surprise to find the company doubling down on this technology by expanding it to its V product line. Nevertheless, the move signals that this technology is becoming increasingly prominent in the mobile market.
