Vision-Box has confirmed that it is the biometric technology partner for Schiphol airport’s new biometric passenger screening initiative, and it’s buckling in for the long haul.
The project was announced this week, with authorities at the Dutch airport revealing that they would trial a biometric passenger screening option in collaboration with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Interested passengers will be able to register their passports, boarding passes, and biometric data, and thereafter proceed through a dedicated security screening lane that uses automated biometric identification to speed up the security process.
Vision-Box would appear to be the natural choice for the airport, given that it was the technology vendor for Aruba Happy Flow, a biometric passenger screening program based in the Aruba Queen Beatrix International Airport and in which KLM and Schiphol were partners. Vision-Box’s profile has only raised higher since then with additional deployments, and the company says Schiphol has granted it a contract for “a long-term modernization program” that will establish “a pioneering end-to-end biometric-based passenger journey.”
Exact timelines for the project haven’t yet been announced, but in its own announcement earlier this week Schiphol indicated that it aims to become a “leading digital airport” in 2018.
