Vision-Box Gets Bengaluru Client Just Two Months After Opening Indian Office

Vision-Box has found its latest client in southern India, announcing that Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has ordered its biometric automated passenger boarding technology. BIAL is the operator of the Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bengaluru.

Vision-Box says its technology will be implemented to enable the automatic identification of travelers as they proceed through the airport, reducing the need for them to present documents such as boarding passes and passports to authorities. “With the implementation of the biometric technology, BLR Airport will become the first Airport in India to have an end-to-end solution for paperless air travel,” the company asserted in a statement announcing the agreement.

In the announcement, Vision-Box CEO Miguel Leitmann framed the agreement not only as being part of an airport modernization effort, but also as “one of the most significant steps towards the Digital India campaign”, a larger modernization program led by India’s central government that encompasses Aadhaar, India’s ambitious biometric national ID program. There is no indication at present that BLR’s system will link its passenger identification to Aadhaar identities, though it is a possibility even if such a link isn’t in place at the project’s implementation.

The BIAL deal arrives just a couple of months after Vision-Box’s opening of its first Indian office, in New Delhi, suggesting that the company already has established considerable momentum in the region.
