Visa is testing out EyeVerify biometric technology on its Visa Now app.
EyeVerify’s Eyeprint ID authentication system is now available to select users of Visa Now, an iPhone app invites users to “[e]xperience Visa executive programs and events like never before” on the Apple App Store. As EyeVerify explains in a statement announcing the integration, users participating in the trial can authenticate using EyeVerify’s eye vein scanning technology when adding money or logging into their Visa Now accounts.
Visa’s interest in EyeVerify’s technology comes as no surprise. With its compatibility with a wide range of mobile devices, Eyeprint ID has attracted a lot of attention from a financial services industry eager for easy-to-implement mobile security solutions; and for its part, Visa has demonstrated a particular interest in biometric technology, as can be seen in its biometric payment concept developed in collaboration with Safran, as well as its work on a biometric authentication standard for the payments industry.
It’s a good match, in other words, and if Eyeprint ID proves to be a hit among Visa Now users, it’s possible that the companies’ collaboration could be extended to other apps and services in the future.
