In my role as FindBiometrics’ Editor in Chief, I write a lot about deepfake technology and the fight against it, particularly with respect to detecting spoofing attempts and weeding out fraud. But I rarely get to see these technologies in action. Fortunately, I recently had just such an opportunity when I was invited to tour the New York City headquarters of ID R&D, a Mitek company.
The firm is well known for its prowess in the areas of face and voice recognition, and has been focusing its efforts on addressing the deepfake threat for years. Well before generative AI tools went mainstream and helped to launch deepfakes into the spotlight, CEO Alexey Khitrov was highlighting his firm’s “facial liveness and deepfake detection technologies” back in 2021, when Mitek announced its acquisition of ID R&D.
And the company has evidently continued to advance its tech to keep pace with readily available deepfake tools, as I was able to see first-hand in my tour of their head office.
Our team has put together a video documenting that tour, and it’s well worth a look for anyone who’s interested in better understanding the deepfake threat and the defensive tools that are available to meet it. Just fill out the form below for a link to the video.
