VFS Global has introduced a new online platform to streamline Indonesia’s Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) application process, making it available to citizens of 97 countries, including South Africa. The platform represents the latest expansion of VFS Global’s digital visa services portfolio, which has grown significantly in recent years through partnerships with multiple governments.
The new system features end-to-end online processing capabilities, accessible via both desktop and mobile devices. It employs Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to automatically populate applicant information and includes functionality for group bookings, particularly useful for travel agencies and convention organizers.
Applicants using the platform receive pre-approval before departure and can bypass traditional immigration queues at Indonesian international airports and seaports, including major entry points in Bali and Jakarta. The system provides customer support in seven languages – English, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, German, and French – with plans to expand language options in the future. This multilingual approach aligns with Indonesia’s broader efforts to enhance its digital infrastructure, including recent implementations of biometric verification systems across various sectors.
The application process involves visiting the official website, submitting required documentation, paying applicable fees, and receiving pre-approved e-VoA documentation via email prior to travel. Upon arrival, travelers can use E-gates or designated immigration counters for expedited entry, similar to systems recently implemented in other Asian airports that have reported significant reductions in processing times.
Jiten Vyas, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Business Development at VFS Global, states that the platform represents their commitment to innovation in visa processing. “The launch of this innovative, secure, and user-friendly digital e-Visa on Arrival platform for Indonesia will undoubtedly streamline the visa application process, making it faster, easier, and more convenient,” he explains.
The implementation of this digital platform aligns with Indonesia’s tourism objectives, as the country aims to attract 14 million visitors by 2025. The system serves as part of the infrastructure supporting this goal by simplifying the entry process for eligible international travelers, while also strengthening the country’s position in the growing digital identity ecosystem of Southeast Asia.
