Venice Airport Authorities Plan Expansion of Biometric eGates

The use of biometric passenger screening is paying off at the Venice Marco Polo Airport.

It was initially introduced back in July of 2015, with airport IT specialist N-Aitec implemented Cognitec’s biometric technology at two gates. It’s now in place at eight gates – four for arrivals and four for departures – and has served over 600,000 passengers.

The system uses Cognitec’s FaceVACS-Entry technology, which scans passengers’ facial biometrics and compares them to the images in their respective passports and ID documents. The cameras automatically adjust to each passenger’s height, helping to further streamline the screening process.

Commenting on the program in a statement, Corrado Fischer, COO of SAVE, the company that manages the airport, commended the ABC eGates’ “high reliability and impressive throughput”, adding that SAVE plans to further extend their use in the airport.
