Almost half of USAA’s mobile users are taking advantage of biometric authentication to log in on their phones, reports San Antonio Business Journal.
The technology comes by way of Daon and its IdentityX platform, offering users the choice to authenticate via fingerprint scan, or facial or voice recognition. USAA, a bank focused on serving the needs of current and former military members, started trialing the technology in 2014 and officially launched the system at the start of 2015.
The system reportedly saw immediate positive feedback from USAA customers, more than 100,000 of whom started taking advantage of it within a few weeks of its debut. By mid-October of that same year, a million users had signed up, and Daon was soon being approached by groups like Korea Smart Authentication Corp. and Mastercard to implement its technology in their own solutions.
Now, of the five million people using USAA’s mobile app, two million are logging in with Daon’s system. It’s one of the first big success stories to come out of the mobile biometrics revolution, and it helps to illustrate the advantages of this technology as more and more organizations consider adopting it.
