Neurotechnology has announced a much-improved version of its Face Verification solution featuring enhanced algorithms and support for web-based applications.
Face Verification 12, which comprises streamlined APIs to help client organizations to implement biometric facial recognition, delivers a number of new or enhanced capabilities, with a web service component among the most notable. The web service essentially brings biometric operations that previously had to be done on a mobile device or PC to remote servers. This means that a client can apply Neurotechnology’s facial recognition to a remote streaming camera in real time, with biometric operations conducted vis WebRTC and REST API.
Another important new feature of Face Verification 12 is its new encrypted biometric template format, which allows for template sizes so compact that biometric data can be stored on microcontrollers or included in a QR code.
Commenting on the upgrade in a statement, Neurotechnology Business Development Manager Antonello Mincone explained that the company has been seeing growing demand for facial recognition in consumer applications, but that “the requirements vary widely, depending on the location where data is stored, where the biometric checks are performed and the different privacy and security regulations involved” in each case.
“Face Verification 12 responds to this demand with a new web service component and smart card compatibility that expand the architectural capabilities for face authentication,” he explained. “It allows system integrators to easily implement and deploy different enrollment and authentication workflows for mobile, web and hybrid applications.”
Face Verification 12 also delivers an improved passive liveness detection mode, which is able to scan for liveness and signs of presentation attacks without any particular action from the end user. Neurotechnology says the new liveness solution features an improved algorithm for detecting an end user’s eye blinks.
The liveness detection algorithm is therefore even more accurate than before, and that’s true of the solution’s facial recognition algorithm as well. What’s more, a new SDK component allows users to export biometric data and perform verification on smart cards that integrate the updated version of Neurotechnology’s MegaMatcher On Card SDK, also announced this week.
