Kentucky-based Veridocs is enhancing its Evolution identity assurance platform with new mobile driver’s license-reading and facial recognition capabilities.
The upgrades arrive in the form of four “modules”. The mDL Authentication module enables a Veridocs scanner to scan an mDL just as a customer would normally scan a physical ID, while the Facial Comparison module uses a webcam to match the face on a given ID to the face of the ID holder.
There is also a Mobile Verification module that is designed to verify IDs using a mobile app, while a new Document Imaging module is meant to scan important documents pertaining to a given individual, such as a signed contract, for easy retrieval later.
Founded in 2005, Veridocs has been focused mainly on the gaming and casino industry, offering identity solutions designed to quickly and reliably authenticate patrons. The company launched its Evolution platform in 2022, alongside TrueListReview, a system designed to help operators monitor various watchlists.
The launch of its new modules, officially announced at this week’s Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas, is notable on a couple of counts. While the Facial Comparison module helps to illustrate the growing preponderance of facial recognition solutions designed to match individuals to their physical ID, the mDL Authentication module reflects the ascent of mobile IDs, which are now supported across a handful of states.
“Our expanded Evolution platform allows our customers to be even more certain that the person standing in front of them meets established criteria for entry or purchase,” explained Veridocs President and CEO Joe Oprosko.
So far, 11 states in the U.S. have launched mDLs that are accepted by the Transportation Security Administration at equipped airports. These include Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, Ohio, and Utah.
Over 20 other states are in various stages of exploring or implementing mDL technology, and seven states have integrated driver’s licenses and state IDs into Apple Wallet, with more states considering this option.
