South Korea-based biometric solutions provider UNIONCOMMUNITY has announced the development of the world’s first motorcycle access and parking management system that uses biometric authentication.
The new solution, tentatively named “UBio-X MPass”, combines UNIONCOMMUNITY’s facial recognition and license plate recognition technologies, and allows parking management to match a motorcycle to its owner by verifying their identity against the vehicle’s license plate to help prevent motorcycle theft.
UNIONCOMMUNITY plans on using UBio-X MPass to primarily target the Southeast Asian market, which contains a particularly high concentration of motorcycle users.
“We have developed the world’s first time and attendance management, access control, motorcycle traffic, and parking management system by combining face recognition and license plate recognition technologies, and we will accelerate the expansion of the Southeast Asian market with Vietnam as an outpost.” said UNIONCOMMUNITY CEO, Shin Yosik. “We will expand the parking management system by combining new types of technologies that have not been seen in the biometric-based access control market, and provide all parking-related solutions in an integrated manner.”
UNIONCOMMUNITY notes that the license plate recognition system that the Ubio-X MPass solution uses has a 99 percent authentication rate, and can use live video analysis to aid in its authentication efforts.
The facial recognition system being employed is the UBio-X Pro2, a multimodal solution capable of authenticating both faces and fingerprints. Its deep learning algorithms allow it to verify an individual’s identity from a variety of angles and at a distance of up to three meters away.
Additionally, its liveness detection and anti-spoofing features help to spot fraud attempts like 3D models, lifelike masks, or basic photos. Ubio-X Pro2 is also equipped with mask detection, enabling its application as an access control method for adherence to new COVID-19 protocols aimed at mitigating the spread of the virus.
Ubio-X MPass will be trialed in a pilot project beginning in early March, with the company hoping for a mass rollout in Vietnam by mid-April of this year. UNIONCOMMUNITY aims to target large apartment complexes, distribution channels, and subway transfer parking lots for deployments.
